McDonald's to offer sweet potato fries

In an attempt to offer more health friendlier options, McDonald's has added sweet potato fries as an alternate option to their regular fries. The fries will be offered in Texas chains to start and will hopefully extend to other states eventually. Sweet potatoes are rich in Vitamin A, however once they are fried it kind of takes away the benefit of the sweet potato as it relates to nutrition. I applaud the fast food chain for attempting to revamp their menu options and though I am not a fan of McDonald's for various reasons, kids seem to love this place so offering healthier options seems like a great idea. With people becoming more cautious in their food consumption, if McDonald's plan is to stay relevant then the sweet potato fries is just a start.

  1. I think this is great! I personally love sweet potato fries and I would definitely get those instead of their regular fries. I am not really a fan of McDonald's at all because I don't agree with how a lot of their food is made, however if McDonald's does start to offer healthier choices it would make me more prone to stop in for a quick bite since they are located everywhere!

  2. I have to be honest, I have never been a huge sweet potato fan. As a child, I could not stand them. But I find as I am getting older a lot of my taste buds have changed and I can now tolerate them. Who knows, in a few years they may be among my favorites.

  3. I agree, once they are fried the healthy benefit seems to be next to nil. I think McDonalds needs to put their efforts elsewhere. Wendy's has a very good "right price" menu. They offer the option of swapping out the fries for a side of chili. Wendy's also has a crispy chicken sandwich on this "right price" menu which maybe isn't their healthiest option but the meat doesn't taste overly-processed and seems like real chicken. I think McD's needs to take some cues from them.

  4. I have tried sweet potatoes fries and they are really good. I actually goggled different dishes involving sweet potatoes and that's were I found how to make sweet potato fries; its very easy. I'm glad to hear that McDonalds will be implementing something healthier on the menu. I will try them once they make it to Missouri/Kansas and I will make sure the kids try them as well.

  5. I love sweet potato fires. I'm hoping that they don't find a way to taint something that's suppose to be healthy. They really should correct their menu.

  6. This is a smart marketing decision on the part of McDonald's; as more people are moving away from fried foods and sodas. I am more than willing to sample their sweet potato fries. I don't eat at McDonald's often, however, every blue moon I will still purchase a cheese burger, regular small fry, and a shake :)
