How is it that one can grow fruit without seeds? I remember as a little girl, eating fruits like grapes or watermelon while trying to avoid swallowing the seeds. Well those days are no longer if you are buying your fruit from your local grocery store, yeah I know we have organic fruit options but when did it become a choice. Now we have seedless grapes and watermelons etc., I would like to be able to buy natural fruit the way it normally grows in the ground, without being charged extra because of it. If the fruit is not sprouted from a seed how does it grow to become called a fruit. I read an article awhile back that says the fruit codes found on the sticker labels placed on them tells rather or not a product has gmo, is organic or chemical based, but not every consumer is this knowledgeable. Wouldn't it be easier to just tell people in a straight forward manner what it is that they are consuming, like why so hush hush about it or as to speak in code.

  1. I have often wondered the same thing when it comes to seedless watermelon. As watermelon is one of my favorites, but as a kid I could never wrap my head around the idea that some of my watermelons never had seeds in them, not because a family member or myself picked them out but because it was a seedless watermelon!

    1. Exactly Laura, even as a kid when learning about different food types they show you a picture of a watermelon that is filled with lots of seeds. Where did the seeds go?

  2. Schelle, yes, of course we all want to try and eat what's best for us, however not everyone is that knowledgeable in the "organic, GMO etc." lingo. I have done several presentations in college on this topic. The nice thing though is that if you shop at places such as Whole Foods, Trader Joe's etc. the staff is usually very knowledgeable and extremely helpful.

  3. Interesting thought. I never really thought about the seedless grapes and watermelon and how that can be. Now you are making me think. I look forward to learning more about food facts.

  5. I think the farmers actually inject some type of steroid so that the seeds will not grow which makes no sense. I agree with you; I would like to buy fruits that are grown naturally and I wouldn't mind being careful no to swallow the seeds..
